Definition:
Introjection is the unconscious incorporation of external values, attitudes, or characteristics into one’s psyche, often without critical examination. It can result from relationships, societal influences, or archetypal projections.
Example:
Addressing introjection helps clients differentiate their authentic self from internalised influences. For example, a client who unconsciously adopts a parent’s perfectionism may work toward establishing healthier standards.
